I have just noticed this thread

I have recently obtained my grandfathers service records and he served with 18 LAA and 99 LAA in Iraq, Italy, Africa, Scilily and Europe.

I am dying to find out more details of battles etc his regiment engaged in but find the service recoards impossible to decipher. I have attached them in the hope that someone might be able to shine some light on the matter...

I think he served in 18 LAA Regt all of the time. 99 Battery was one of 18 LAA's batteries. It mentions 56 Battery as well, which was also in 18 LAA Regt.

Have sent you a PM (Private Messgae)

I know this topic is quite old but hopefully I will get at least one reply. My Grandfather who died 1989 served with 99 battery. I have loads of electronic pictures of him, unknown others, documents including a letter from King George upon receipt of his Military Medal and his last charge sheet!!
He was 1731818 Leonard BARRETT of B Troop, 99th Battery 18 LAA.
I am more than happy to share images, copies and would ask if anybody knew him or of him and has any doscuments or images please.
    Regards

It would be good to see any pictures during his time on the Garigliano in Jan 44 and afterwards at Anzio.

Where did he win his MM?

    Hi Will

Welcome to the forum. Are you sure you got the Dunkirk unit correct? My files show 18 LAA Regt or 99 LAA Bty were not in France during 1940.

    Hi Mark
Hopefully you are still active on the forum...
My original post stated that my Grandfather also served in 99Battery of 18th LAA from 1940 though to 1946, travelling extensively.
I do have all the war diaries for the battery and would love to share with you ? If you have any photos etc I would equally love to see them!

    Regards

    Ali

I love that they “interrupted their world tour to invade Sicily”. Very dry.

As said in post he was in the HLI who were at Dunkirk on return he was merged into the gunners. Since writing the first post ive found apart from being in all the other places which i have pictures of he was given leave after Belsen and kindly married my mother but then returned to the Harz .The info i dont have is when and where he was demobed.

Hi thanks for update the medals were given to the grandsons on his passing and twas them who gave me the info in which you are correct the Dunkirk medal has no ingraving his serial number is from the other ones on further research he actually joined the HLI in 1938 as at that time the judge gave you a choice of join the army or get jail time he chose army. Thanks to you gentlemen on this site you have given me the proof to the stepbrother in Austalia sadly found in a care home with early dimentia But""" on the good side his long awaiting answer to who his father was I was able to send him pictures.
To the chap who started this site thankyou from Peter and me.
On a funnier note you have now turned a confused bunch of German Ozzies into Scots Ozzies.I have pictures of my dsd and his gun crew in various places that ill try to upload incase any of you recognise your relation.
