hi ,i am new to this forum thank you for letting me join ,i am looking for more info on my grandad sapper martin dawe of the 244 field coy ,he died on the 4th july 44 and is layed to rest in secqueville en bessin cemetery near cean ,i have the certificate from the british war graves commission ,how do i find more info regarding his actions and possibly a photo as i have never seen one of him, i plan to visit him in the near future with my son thomas who is a lance corpral in the royal logistical corp ,im sure my grandad would be very proud of him ,thank you
Hi Mark Welcome The very first step you need to take is to obtain his service records - they can only be obtained from the MOD and the link is - Request records of deceased service personnel - GOV.UK These will tell you exactly who (which units) he was with and when.
