18 LAA Regt RA were the anti-aircraft regiment for 5 Infantry Division. They were known as the Globetrotters because they went everywhere.

My interest in them as a battlefield guide is their time in Italy where they played a huge role at the crossing of the mighty Garigliano in Jan 44 and then in the Anzio beachhead from Mar-Jun 44.

    Regards

    Frank

The RA reference source for WW2 has for the battery and regiment a short history, which confirms deployment to Persia / Iran:
From: 18 Light Anti-Aircraft Regiment RA (TA) - The Royal Artillery 1939-45

If you search here for Abadan, the main city and port for Iran, you will learn how strategically important defending the oilfields was.
