    Hello John and Robert Caldwell,

My name is Gunnar Foseid from Norway. For the past three years I have been doing a research on the three Short Stirlings that crashed in Norway and Sweden on 10 May 1945 during Operation Doomsday, the Liberation of norway (LK147, LK297 and LJ899). My goal was to find as many relatives of the 48 perished men and the 20 survivors (LJ899) s possible and to invite them to Memorials in Norway. Together with a fantastic research team we managed to trace the relatives to almost everyone. A Memorial was arranged at Gardermoen (LK147) in May 2012, a Memorial in Oslo May 2013 (LK297) and in Sweden May this year (LJ899).

To the point: during my reseach of the LK147 belonging to the 196 Squadron, I managed to make contact with the son of Pilot Tickner, and the daughters of both Quirk and Humphrey, three of the airmen of LJ925 that was shot down across Lake Holen, Arendal, Norway on 25 February 1945. We have exchanged much and usefull information, so I would really like to make contact with you as well, the relatives of Caldwell.

If you, or anyone else within this forum, have any information about the relatives of MANN, Rolf William (Flight Sergeant) 422649 RAAF (POW) and Wireless Operator STEVENSON, Joseph Daglish 25 (Flight Sergeant) 422761 RAAF, I would be really happy to receive any information. Next year we will celebrate the 70th Anniversary of VE day here in Norway, as in Europe, and I know that at least the relatives of Tickner consider a trip to Norway during that period.

You can make contact with me on: stirlingLK147(at)gmail.com

    Best wishes,
    Gunnar Foseid
