I've just added Mont Garni (War Diary Location-most likely Bn HQ), Ramegnies-Chin (Morris burial location) and Froyennes (PSM Neale's burial location) to google maps and it is quite interesting to look at.

Looking at a map with 1 Div battalion positions on I would guess A Company (PSM's Neale's Coy) were on the right flank when they counter attacked and your man's company was on the left flank and were joined with the right flank of 1 Duke of Wellington's Regt.

If you look at the first page of the diary I think you could find that Villa. ;)

Hi Graeme - No probs. I only stumbled on this thread by chance whilst going through some older 1940 threads. I edited the title and deleted a post about the KOYLI etc.

    Hope its of use.

Some war diaries do, service records do not. If he was captured or killed the best place to look is the missing men file to see if they mention his Company.

He survived the war but the bits my nan collected after he died don't really say. so just checking options sonwe could pin point where he was fighting at Dunkirk

That would be the war diaries then. They'll give you a day by day account of what the battalion was doing and where they were doing it.
