I've applied for my great uncle's service records but they haven't arrived yet so I don't yet know which company he served with. Would it be possible to get a copy of your fathers citation ? It would be great to have a better understanding of the events that were happening around that date. All we know or at least all I know was that the family were told that he had been wounded and was tragically shot by a sniper as he lay wounded and that his mates got the sniper. I made a mistake in my original post in that it was two months after he was killed that his only brother was killed with the Seaforths in Normandy. That sounds like a fantastic trip you are going on, wish you all the best with it.

Thank you very much for your reply. Certainly I can send you the citation. I can email it to you, or possibly send by WhatsApp to a mobile number if I can master the process.

These can be substantial files, John, and have usually incurred some cost to the person or persons that have copied them off... there are folks on the site that have copied some war diaries off, almost certainly including these (not me in this case) and best price I was aware of (some years back) was circa 10p a page... the alternative is to visit the National Archives in Kew with a digital camera and make your own copy... they do have their own copying service... it was significantly more in price... a number of us operate a "buddy" service and have copied off files for friends and fellow researchers... my files run to nearly 50gb of data... not quite going to go through a standard email system... Drew5233 is one of those that offers copying services... it would be best to PM him directly... ;)
