Sorry for the delay in responding Owen - so much to do prior to my upcoming trip to London.

I have always wanted to go back to Tunisia but unfortunately did not.

I am researching my uncle Harold Fisher who was in No2 Commando/11 SAS/1st Para and was missing at j Mansour on 05.02.1944. I will be in Tunisia on 18.04.10 to visit site. Perhaps I have some info. Let me know any specifics to help

Hi Guys, as ever I'm very jealous of anyone going to Tunisia. One day I hope to get there myself; whilst I eternally end up going to Italy to follow my grandfathers footsteps, Turnisa remains on the distant horizon.

The coldstream were at D.J. on the 5th; but only the only thing they were fighting were scorpions, as they were in reserve and were never commited; I have a nice account from a veteran I met regarding the battle from their point of view (just a short paragraph, but it sounds pretty bad).

It was in Tunisia that the first Tiger was killed by a member of the 4th Troop - "B' Squadron - 48th RTR of the 21st Tank Bde - taken by the NIH to Bizerta - shipped to Glasgow - sat on the Horse Guards parade for weeks - finally taken to Bovington and restored and now sits in pride of place there !

...and no I have never been back either - and little desire to do so....
    Cheers

    Dave,
Hopefully you will not take offence but the 2nd Btn's operation in NA was the third one......3rd Btn on Bone first, 1st Btn on Souk-el-Arba second and then the 2nd Btn at Depienne......

No offence taken, my information is quite sketchy coming from other family members, because granndad refused to talk about it.

Your information is invaluable for my book research, being corrected where necessary is good editing and I welcome it.

Although I am writing Fiction Novel, with semi fictional characters, the Time line needs to be historically correct in my eyes.

    Definitely no offence taken.

    Cheers

    Dave
