Well, I shall start again, my Father Louis Andrew Makinson, s/n 4453730, enlisted into 5th Battalion DLI (T A) on 3rd February 1939, sometime between this date and Feb1941 he was at 234 S/L Training Regiment until it 234 disbanded and became 557 S/L Battery, it was this unit that he went to war with. This Battery became a Moonlight Battery and was later attached to the Canadians after being split and forming 582 Moonlight Battery who went with 30 Corps. After the split he was 582 Battery, I keep forgetting to put in the words Independent and Moonlight, for that was their designation .. 557 and 582 Ind Moonlight Battery.

Richard just to make you aware the new `DLI` facility at St Qswalds opens on 14 June 2024 amongst the archived records is
    Ref: D/DLI 15/1/56
Army Book 358 Register of Soldiers, Durham Light Infantry, no. 70, these are former DLI personnel serving or having served in the Royal Artillery Search Light [Regiments], c.1939 - 1945.
Obviously you are well aware that 5 DLI ceased to be a light infantry regiment in 1938 and when your Dad joined in 39 they were an affiliated regiment only having been under both RE and RA command post DLI .
Hope the record will be useful to you

Thanks Kyle, I have now got dad's records from the mod, but I will certainly be calling in to see this one.
