Did any veteran of the 225th Parachute Field Ambulance write books on their wartime experiences? Have their been any books published on the British Parachute Field Ambulance units?

Welcome to the forum......just to add a bit to previous posts:

Can't think of any 'personal' accounts from a member of 225....however some others to consider which look at the PFA's:

    By the members of 224
Red Devils - A PFA in Normandy
Over the Rhine - A PFA in Germany
Both almost unobtainable as done in 1945 and limited to about 300 copies.....

From a guy in 133 in the 1950's Private Kelly by himself (not much on his wartime service and a lot in his being a prisoner of the Russians).....

    From the members of 16

Surgeon at Arms by John St John (otherwise known as Lipmann Kessel), starts at Arnhem
Showers on Thursday by John Bellamy, the chief clerk of the unit and covers NA, Sicily and Arnhem. Came out in 2004 200 copies printed and never seen one on the second hand market, perhpas one of the hardest Arnhem books to find....

Then recently reissued warts and all On Wings of Healing by Naval and Military Press......

Not much else on the PFA's.......

Also PFA related is Stan's Story....not a personal account but the life story of one of the members of 16 who was killed at the Arnhem road bridge in September 1944.......

Pte. Robert Hendrie, an orderly from 225th Parachute Field Ambulance, photographs on Mark Hickman's site show his commanding officer Bruce Harvey in a jeep on Pegasus Bridge, Ranville Church, Major Howard's glider and the men of 225 PFA from Normandy, Germany & the Far East.

John Casnel writing about an Airborne Hospital, think this is referring to 225th Parachute Field Ambulance's MDS; it mentions a "tall moustacheod Lieutenant-Colonel" which I believe is Lt-Col. Bruce and the wounded para Pte. Eric Ellis (5048627) B Company 8th Parachute Battalion; as it mentions Ellis is from the Midland regiment and was wounded on D-Day evacuated by 8th Field Ambulance, RAMC.

It's an interesting look at what the Airborne RAMC were up to, what was happening in the immediate area and how casualties were treated on D-Day. It also mentions the shelling of the MDS killing an [medical] orderly.
