    24th Guards Brigade, 1st Division, 5 Corps
    2621138 Lance-Corporal Robert TAYLOR, 5th GRENADIER GUARDS

During the attack on DJEBEL BOU AOUKAZ on 27th April this N.C.O. showed courage and leadership of a high order.

During an assault on two Machine Gun posts about half way to the objective he was wounded in the knee. Refusing to remain behind, he took part in a subsequent assault which resulted in the capture of ten enemy mortars and their crews. During this attack he was again wounded in the arm in spite of which he fought with the utmost vigour and determination.

He finally arrived on the objective - a further 2000 yards uphill - carrying all his equipment, his tommy gun and his empty magazines.

Prior to this occasion this N.C.O. HAD CONSISTENTLY SHOWN complete disregard for his personal safety and his conduct throughout the operations 22nd April - 6th May merits the highest praise.

    Signed G.C. GORDON-LENNOX, D.S.O., Lieutenant-Colonel, Commanding 5th Battalion GRENADIER GUARDS

    Granted D.C.M.
