I'm looking for any information available on the 26th Division of the Indian Army, which I believe formed part of the 14th Army and that, for a time, it took part in the Arakan operations. Any pointers as to where more information can be gleaned would be greatly appreciated. The friend who I'm researching for has a particular interest in ROYAL INDIAN ARMY SERVICE CORPS units that formed part of the Division / Army. David T.
David, You will find details on the 26th Indian Division in Chris Kempton's: 'Loyalty & Honour' The Indian Army September 1939 - August 1947. Part I Divisions. If you are unable to get a copy then please let me know what kind information you are looking for and I will post it here. Kind Regards Steen Ammentorp The Generals of World War II
Thanks, Steen & Kiwiwriter... both books sound to be very good plus they're readily available via Amazon and The Military Press. I'll be passing the details on to my friend. I have to say that it's nice to be receiving such international input... thanks, again. David T.

(Kiwiwriter @ Nov 28 2005, 04:18 PM) [post=42189]Try Louis Allen's book on Burma: The Longest War. That has the campaign chapter and verse. [/b] I don't know where you are based, but the only other book on the Burma campaign widely available outside larger bookshops in Britain is Julian Thompson's IWM book. But Allen, although written quite a few years ago, is much better in my opinion.
Try reading the Imperial War Museum book of the War in Burma by Julian Thompson. I've found it a excellent book to help my research into the Burma campaign.
