    WE ARE TOLD the 26th Hussars were "raised at Meerut in June 1941 from a cadre of personnel taken from the 14th/20th King’s Hussars, and [were] assigned to 2nd Indian Armoured Brigade. [The Battalion] was later moved to 225th Indian Tank Brigade. It was disbanded at Secunderabad in October 1943" (26th Hussars - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia.)

    Can you please tell me:
    • Who was the CO of this luckless unit. (? Congreves ? Norton)
    • Who was the Brigadier into whose Brigade the unit fell ?
    Many thanks!
    William

    Not sure if there would be much re. Major Edward (Ted) Ronald Pettit with the 26th Hussars....

    24th L - War Diary - has...
    19/1/42 Major E. R. Pettit posted to 1st Lothian & Border Yeomanry.

    And he later served with the 26th Hussars... see ("career" ref.) below... although the details there are...

    October 9th, 1943: 26th Hussars, Meerut, India;
    October 1943: Squadron Leader 3rd Carabiniers, Prince of Wales’s Dragoon Guards, Burma;

    Which barely seems to amount to much time with them, curiously...
