2734220 Serjeant Nelson REES, 3rd Battalion WELSH GUARDS

    20th June 1944. Map Ref 667950, Sheet 122/II, 1/50,000.

This Serjeant commanded No. 10 Platoon during the action at HAMMAM LIF on 9th May 1943.

His Platoon came under heavy Machine Gun fire during the attack on the DJEBEL. By his personal courage and example he got the whole of his Platoon to their objective. He then took them to the Town of HAMMAM LIF where he remained all night although the town was in enemy hands and returned at dawn with valuable information.

Signed Lieutenant-Colonel D.E.P. HODGSON, Commanding 3rd Battalion WELSH GUARDS.
