This thread from post 89 could do with a seperate thread of its own as two subjects have merged a bit:huh:

I just thought i would post it as it is all to do with the same family which i wanted to keep in one thread but i do see your point it does have nothing to do with the 2nd battalion parachute regiment. Maybe it is best to move all of my posts over to a separate thread, I have kind of taken over your thread and Daves research into his Grandad which i didn't intend to do, i am sorry for that. If a Moderator can move it to a separate thread that would be great if not maybe delete all of my posts and i can start it over again.

No need to apologies Stuart, but I think Jason is right, the Canadian Para's deserve a tread and page of there own anyway. Could one of the Mods take up Jason's motion and move everything from post 89 please.

My father served in this regiment in WW2 He was Thomas (Tom) Victor Hunter
My mum sent for his war record but got nothing back. I am writing a family history book and would like to get any details I can. I believe he was at anaheim. He also was in KL and Java after the war was over but I am not sure if he was a paratrooper then. Any Info would be wonderful ( I know he served with another soldier who had the same surname and who was killed. Not much to go on I am afraid. greenvalley:

Hello there and welcome to the forum

Do you have any photographs of him in uniform?.

When you say your mother got nothing back,do you mean they had no records of him or you just never heard back from them. Every scrap of information about him helps, but I am sure Mr Pariso will be along shortly lend a hand with your request.

Also it is Arnhem, Anaheim is in California if Im not mistaken.

    Regards

Welcome GV, do you know what information you Mum sent when applying for your Fathers service records? and if he was at Arnhem with 2 Para im sure between us who are intrested in that area we can be of help, is KL kuala Lumpa:unsure: and given you mention of a fellow soldier with the same surname as your Dad who was killed, this is the only Hunter, that I can find who was K.I.A at Arnhem but with 156 BN.CWGC :: Casualty Details

There were 8 people with the surname "Hunter" KIA at Arnhem (follow the link and enter HUNTER in the search box). Most were from the 7 KOSB and as far as I can see no-one from 2 Para with that name was killed.

    Hi All,

I was reading my files from Kew and found something of interest... Captian Frank and Major Tatham Warter did a list of about 800 Para's just before and After Arnhem.. I wonder where that ended up in the files I did find about 300 or so names.. Most are witness to what happened but you can also find Soldier's that were KIA at Arnhem as well ... This still makes for interesting reading because you can add names to 2 Para there were at Arnhem...

    Cheers

You will see from the attached that lists of casualties/POWs etc were being compiled very soon after the Arnhem operation and from a variety of sources. The list of those killed or taken POW at the bridge was prepared by Tony Hibbert.

Hi Folks, i am looking for photos of the WO and Sgt's mess 1947/48. My grandfather received his medal for Palestine in 1948, his rank at the time was Sgt, however when he left the army in 1949 his red discharge book it says he was a Pte! I would like to find any pics of him during those years 47/48. His name was Charles Upperton.

    Hi,
I am new so please bear with me.
I am researching my late Fathers WW2 past to be made into a document to be passed down the generations after I am no longer here!!
I hope someone may be able to help me.
My Father was in C Company 2nd Battalion Parachute Regiment during WW2.
He did not speak much about his experiences so I can only go on what he did say and what I have read so far. His name was George Dunbar.
He was dropped in North Africa to blow up airfields (Oudna etc.) He was captured along with many others and taken to a POW Camp in Italy (possibly more than one) He managed to escape and fought with the Italian Partisans until he found his way through to the advancing American lines and was repatriated. It would be fanatastic to find out which POW Camp(s) he was in and also the name of the Partisan group who he fought with.
    Can anyone help please??
    Many thanks in anticipation.

Will have a look for a Dunbar...are you aware of the book Tunisian Tales? - It covers the 1st Parachute Brigade in North Africa 1942 to 1943 with a couple of chapters on the Oudna drop plus some photos of the area......not a lot to see to be honest as I've been there but still of interest!
