my father was wounded in either scicily or italy ( not sure which as he very rarely spoke about it ) he was eventually sent to a hospital near bristol. where he met my mother who was in the ATS attached to a searchlight unit at portishead. is there anyway i can find out in which action he was wounded in and what happened to him afterwards. rumour has it he lay among the dead for three days before being discovered alive.

    hi spidge,
    thanks for the reply.
3249132 pte. james watson, 2nd cameronians, he would have enlisted, probably in hamilton, as we lived in blantyre at the time, i presume he would have been discharged there also.
    not much i am afraid.

Steven, the 2nd Cameronions were in the 13th Infantry Brigade of the Eighth Army and took part in Operation Husky in July/August 1943. this was the campaign to capture the island of Sicily by the Allies from the Axis forces.
You need to get his Army record to confirm where he served.

If he did serve in Sicily he was involved in the Lemon Bridge action with the German Group Schmalz. A good book on Husky is Bitter Victory by Carlo D'Este (1988)

This is'nt much info but might help.

    Colin.

Thanks, it gives us some clues as the the units he served with. Once I get the time i'll provide more details of the units and hopefully track down where he was wounded!

If Stephen ever comes back? I have found his fathers wound details -
01/11/1943 WIA by Shrapnel near Bojano village, Italy. Discharged as medically unfit.
