Yes, April would be quite different to January in Tunisia. In fact in 1943 it rained, flooded and bogged most of Tunisia, especially the Kasserine Pass between January and March. It was the main reason Rommel was defeated as his tanks were bogged getting into the pass. Dad was an eyewitness.

I would be interested in knowing more about your trip to the area. Have you any stories or photographs you can show me? What is your connection to the 26th Armour?

Hereward, I wonder if you (or anyone else reading this for that matter) could tell me to the best of your knowledge if the 16/5 lancers were involved at Bou Arada? I can't confirm with any authoritative source online when or if they were there, but there are some mentions that they were there from Jan. 18th 1943. I would really like to confirm if and how they were involved if possible. Also if you can, what are your sources?

    Thanks, Anton.

    Thanks for that David.

It looks like the Bou Arada skirmishes were connected to a larger battle at Djebel Kournine, which the 16th/5th received battle honours for, so they must have been there at some stage. My father was with the 16th/5th lancers - he had arrived at Teboursouk in Tunisia in early Jan. 43.

I know Hereward's had some health problems over the last few months but still posts occasionally on the Lothians' Facebook page.
