Hallo all I wonder if any here can give me a few clues or internet pointers regarding the movements of the 2nd Recce. Some of the websites I have seen which give unit details are a bit overwhelming, but none seem really to tell me much about where 2nd recce were or what they were doing. I've a copy of The British Reconnaissance Corps in World War II by Doherty, but even that in depth little book didn't give me any clue as to the day to day operations. Specific questions I have for now are - When did 2nd recce arrive in Burma and what was their route there, possibly a ship name? What major actions were 2nd Recce involved in? Were the majority of 2nd Recce POWs captured around the same time/location and taken to the same camp and where was this camp? This is in an effort to find out more details of the service of my Grandad, Robert 'Dusty' Miller, before I get a chance to view (hopefully) his POW details at Kew and request his Service Record from MoD archives. Any other tips about what I could dig up would be most welcome. Thanks for you interest Kind regards
Mods - I think I've placed this in the wrong section. Could it be moved to the 'Units' part of the forum please? Many thanks
OK, moved but it was OK in the Burma section. I really must look into that campaign more. Sorry can't help on this one. All I can add is off Paul's website. 2nd Division At Sea: 15.4.42 - 7.6.42 India: 7.6.42 - 1.4.44 Burma: 2.4.44 - 11.4.45 India: 12.4.45 - 31.8.45 2 Recce Regt: 1.1.44 - 31.8.45 RECCE 2 Bn: 30.4.41 - 5.6.42 2 Regt: 6.6.42 - 31.12.43

I presume those references are for the War Diaries? Fantastic! many thanks, Owen Had a look at TNA site WO 166/6181 1942 Jan.- Apr. WO 172/4253 1944 Jan.-Mar. WO 172/6953 1945 Jan.- Dec. WO 172/10053 1946 Jan.- July
Yes they are, if you get to Kew you can pre-order them to save time. Search page here>>> Detecting your browser settings We've a stcky thread somewhere on tips & finding war diaries.
I also suggest contacting Burma Star Association. Burma Star Association - War Against Japan - Burma Campaign Many of the questions asked on the Forum seem to aimed at the veterans of the Far East Campaign. May I therefore suggest that your question be duplicated to my email address (below) with your home contact details and I will publish it for you in DEKHO!, the Association's Magazine. (DEKHO!'s distribution goes to over 8000 veterans of the campaign, so, you never know what additional information you might get from them.
Hallo Owen After Dave confirmed that my man was in the Loyals (6th Bn) I've hit a wall in my internet searches which I'm quite surprised about - The 14th Army is still such a Forgotten Army! Here's another silly question - The War Diaries you kindly listed for me, would that count as 'one item' or 'four items', as I noticed it appears you can only order three items at a time when visiting the National Archives? Many thanks and kind regards
Here's another silly question - The War Diaries you kindly listed for me, would that count as 'one item' or 'four items', as I noticed it appears you can only order three items at a time when visiting the National Archives? I haven't been up there for ages, work & family means I don't get chance. There are lots more members on here who almost live there, I hope they'll put you right. Have a look at the thread "Kew Tips", more info on visiting TNA there. http://www.ww2talk.com/forum/research-material/15595-national-archives-kew-tips.html
