    Hello all,

Looking for specific info about this security units ? As a Dutchman he got his training in Ukkel as member of the Belgian BAAPS II. From april 1945 on he was active in Germany, from july 1945 for BAFO.
What was the size of this security section?
    Duties ?
Was the leader of a security section, a sergeant ?
Was 2nd TAF group 83 also active on the german island of Sylt in 1945 and 1946 ?

    Thanks !

Sylt was not overrun during the war in that a RAF unit was based here but it was occupied immediately after the war as B 170 Westerland.....later renamed RAF Sylt and would be a unit of the 2nd TAF.

Every RAF unit and here I am thinking about stations, would have a contingent of RAF Police headed by an officer perhaps at F/L rank, supported by the SWO (Station Warrant Officer) being a designated disciplinary appointment having a Sergeant(s) and Corporals in the structure. The RAF Police minimum rank was Corporal, the usual practice being on passing out of training from AC2 to AC1,the policeman's status was ensured by promotion to Corporal rank but unpaid. He would then follow the usual path of promotion as any other airman.

    RAF Sylt

Squadrons based here are listed RAF Sylt - Wikipedia

I recall that Sylt was frequently visited by the RAF in the early opening of the war,the target being the airfield and seaplane base....days when daylight operations to such places could result in a high loss rate.An era when the government policy held an embargo on bombing the German mainland.

Not my subject, however by 7 Jun 83 HQ 83 Group RAF was based at Seefliegerhorst Schleswig, there would have been an outstatation at RAF Sylt, disbanded 21 Apr 46 duties relieved by 85 Group RAF, sorry no security section details try RAF Sylt Association - Official Site

I think that this article should give a good insight to the origin and creation of the RAFP.

    http://www.rafpa.com/history.htm

In Germany there would be intensive duties tasked with the RAFP immediately after the war related to the establishment of the occupation administration and the bringing to justice, those suspected as being involved in the illegal treatment of airmen POWs Apart from the normal RAFP structures set up on operational units there would be intelligence gathering via RAFP Security units in an effort to ease the transition of occupied territory from war to peace. The Werwolf threat would be high on the list in the potential threat to the peace transition.Counter measures of the occupation force intelligence/security unit would be applied during the immediate postwar years.

VIP security would be an expertise and requirement of these security units. BLack marketerring in food, fuel involving service units and investigations into criminal activity of RAF servicemen would be in a security unit's remit.

I remember a discussion on this forum regarding a former RAFP serviceman who was a member of a Schleswig Holstein Security unit. These Security units must have been set up by the RAF throughout the British Zone of Occupation in Germany.

Have just found that 2 Security Section 84 Group RAF consisted of 1 officer and 12 other ranks, not the unit you are looking at but just to give you an idea of a section strength

An officer ? I assume a sergeant with 12 corporals ? What do you mean with 2 security section: two group of each 6 or 1 of 12 ?

The meaning was Number 2 Security Section with one commissioned officer, 84 Group had a Number 1 too, the only reason I have this information, is the British Army were responsible for the local administration
