Not unless he had transferred to HQ 1st Armoured Brigade.

3RTR were a fully A10 battalion by then.

Not the sort of thing I would usually notice straight of, but now that you mention it, I've seen four different mantels for the A13:

    Mantel 1.jpg Mantel 2.jpg Mantel 3.jpg Mantel 4.jpg

The tank in Crock's pic has the second one (there's no particular order here, by the way).
PS. the missus has just had a look at what I'm doing, and reminded me of how I used to take the mickey out of a friend of mine who was a train-spotter...not quite sure what she means..

We’ll not look at the A13 with a fleeting glance anymore!

A few photos from the early days, all 3 have Durban, Dec 4th '40 written on the back,

They left the UK on 29/10/40 aboard the boat Stirling Castle, stopping at Durban for a few days ashore before finally getting to Egypt 23/12/40

The first photo i presume is aboard the Stirling Castle, who any of them are i've no idea other than my grandad obviously, looks possibly a mix of troops and crew?

    17a.jpg

2nd photo shows my grandad top right of the 4 sat down, again ive no idea who the other 3 are?

    17.jpg

3rd photo shows grandad on the right, the other chap is also in photo 2 but no idea who he is?

Here are some useful tables that a mate sent me, you can see what/when formation (Division & Brigade) that the 3rd were part of, the formation badge, Arm of Service (AOS) number and the vehicles used by them throughout WW2:-

The designers of the A13 were clearly not fussed by sloped armour!

No writing on these pics but look early to me, any detectives see any clues to where and when they might be? not sure if they are same place / time

They look like Churchill Crocodiles, you can see the trailers that carried the fuel in the second pic, so I guess it's Sütcheln, around about Sept '45, when 3RTR swapped their Comets for them, see earlier post: 3 RTR B Squadron for more details! The WD states for Sept 14th: 0915; Flame test of all CHURCHILL Crocs.
