3 RTR Vehicle / Tank Numbers Greece 1941

    MarkN very kindly provided me with 3 RTR's war diary for March and April 1941 (WO169/1411) and, attached to a report by the OC of A Sqn produced on 12 July 1941 when back in Egypt, I noted the following vehicle numbers and cause of loss:

    Subject:- Nature and Location of vehicle casualties.

    (a) AMYNTEON [sic] Nil.

    ( B) AMYNTEON – PTOLEMAIS Nil.

    (c) PTOLEMAIS – ALIAKMON

    T9256 1950 hrs. 13.4.41. Broken track.
    T5925 2000 hrs. 13.4.41. Engine and Steering Clutch.
    T9216 2100 hrs. 13.4.41. Steering clutch.
    T9212 0500 hrs. 14.4.41. Broken track.

    (d) ALIAKMON – VENTRICOS.

    T9205 1100 hrs. 14.4.41. Steering clutch.
    T5929 1900 hrs. 14.4.41. Engine.
    T9211 1000 hrs. 15.4.41. Broken track.
    T9204 1130 hrs. 15.4.41. Broken track.
    T9210 1400 hrs. 15.4.41. Broken track.
    T9215 1630 hrs. 15.4.41. Broken track.

    (e) VENTRICOS – LARISSA.

    Abbassia.

    This confirms that the track problems with the A10's caused the majority of casualties and also that the Adjutant of the 3 RTR was a detail man!!
