My dad who passed away two weeks ago was a member of the 30 th Battalion Royal Marines from 1943-1946. I would like to find out the history and what action they where involved in during the war. I am in the United States. Was hoping theres a Royal Marine history department. If anyone in England who could pass on any information I would be so grateful. Cheers

There is a slight discrepancy since the battalion was not formed until January 1945 and you mentioned your father served from 1943. He may have been with some other unit, on a ship, or training before January 1945.

    30th Royal Marine Battalion

    Raised
    15 January 1945 at Dalditch

The battalion served under command of 116th Brigade, Royal Marines from 15 January 1945 until 31 August 1945. After a brief shakedown in Yorkshire, the battalion moved to France with the brigade. The battalion left the United Kingdom on 18 February 1945 and was at sea until 20 February. It served in North-West Europe in the Netherlands District under 1st Canadian Army until 27 June 1945, when it returned to the United Kingdom. The battalion was disbanded at Topsham on 7 November 1945.
