31962 Temporary Lieutenant-Colonel Algernon George William HEBER-PERCY, 3rd Battalion GRENADIER GUARDS

Lieutenant-Colonel HEBER-PERCY has commanded his Battalion in NORTH AFRICA with outstanding success.

His personal courage, dash and inspiring leadership are reflected in the high morale of his battalion.

He had personally initiated, planned and led many successful operations, and has continuously harassed the enemy when in contact. His coolness and gallantry under fire on many occasions have been an example to all.

31962 Major, War Substantive Lieutenant-Colonel, Temporary Brigadier Algernon George William HEBER-PERCY, D.S.O.

Brigadier A.G.W. HEBER-PERCY was commanding 12th Infantry Brigade in its operations to establish a bridgehead across the River SAVIO, during 20th October to 24th October.

These operations were completely successful in spite of severe enemy resistance of all types and the greatest difficulties caused by rain and the flooding of the river. The fact that the bridgehead was established was in a great measure due to the skill and leadership of this Officer who, thought the operation, maintained a cheerful and firm control of his battalions and inspired them after a period of four days hard fighting and heavy shelling, to take an effective part in the break out from the bridgehead.

During the operations, when visiting a forward Battalion H.Q., he was present when the building in which the Headquarters was established received a direct hit which wounded two Commanding Officers. Regardless of his personal safety he quickly and cheerfully ensured the re-establishment of proper command of the battalions thus preventing the confusion which might well have arisen, and inspiring all those present to overcome the shock caused by the incident.

His leadership and personal courage during the whole operation were of the highest order.
