Please can anyone confirm that 337 HAA Battery were part of 107 HAA Regiment.

I'm then looking to confirm their whereabouts during WW2. If correct, I have them in the UK after formation in late 1940, then North West Europe from June 1944 onwards.

After November 1945, when the WO171 war diaries stopped, were they posted to Palestine or somewhere in that region?

I'm looking into this for the daughter of Gunner Daniel Summers who does not have access to her Father's service record. I have some photos which make sense, except for two which are possibly in the Middle East, post war.

I've been told that this is part of a photo measuring 3 feet long. It would nice to identify the location of the castle in the background.

Daniel Summers is right of photo.

107th Heavy Anti-Aircraft Regiment RA were part of 3rd Army Group RA command 12 Corps in the Hamburg area moving to 109th Anti-Aircraft Brigade RA

Command switched to 8 Corps District Jun 45 and the regiment remained with the brigade until disbandment in the Hamburg area Oct 45

If you have anything on exact locations this will help Bluebell Minor and my research

    Hi Steve,

I'm enquiring as I'm trying to find out where they were.

The war diary listed at Kew has an end date of Nov '45 and that's all I know.

    Cheers - Rob

  7. I was delighted to come across this thread as I am doing some research on behalf of my father in law. His father, Gunner John Thompson served with 337 HAA Battery as part of 107 Regiment. We have his service records which have shed a little bit of light on his service career and I have managed to pull a few other things up from the internet.

I will try to make a visit to the IWM as they seem to have a copy of the regimental diary - I doubt that I'll be able to afford the photocopy fees but I would love to fill in some of the gaps - I've managed to find out what the regiment were doing from their arrival in France to the middle of August and again through late September to December but there are a couple of family stories it would be great to confirm (or otherwise)

Father in law said that his dad spent some time on the coast of Holland trying to shoot down V1 Doodlebugs and that they were deployed as infantry during the Battle of the Bulge. If anyone can shed any light on these or has any more information that might be of use, we would be most grateful.

The unit would have used AEC Matador Gun Tractors towing the 3.7 AA Guns. Father in law has restored four of these trucks over the years and we have taken them to many commemorative events both in the UK and Europe over the years. We are planning to take a couple of them to Europe next year and are planning to follow Gunner John Thompson's footsteps from Arromanche to Hamburg - it is going to be quite a trip...

I have this picture and have only just found out where it was. My dad was Sidney Read and never talked much about his time, I only have this photo to tell me where he went. I know he stayed in Germany after VE day and have been told he was involved in Policing German prisoners. Can anyone shed any light on this? Like others I am trying nofollow in his footsteps, one step at time! I plan to go to this castle if I can and get a picture for myself! My dad is seated in the front row, to the left of the sign, 12 from the sign.

You need to otherwise you chase shadows and the records usually show you more detail.
Plus members on the forum can copy war diaries for a reasonable rate

On 29th March 1945 5 soldiers were killed by a V-1 bomb in Kalmthout (Belgium). I presume they belong to the 107th regt HAA (bat. 334). I found 2 names: Jim Wolstenholme and William Robert Hicks on the Roman Catholic

I took these photos in 2010. At the time, the CWGC plot, looked a bit unloved.

Hi. James Wolstenholme is the grandfather of my partner. We did some research at the Public Record Office a couple of years ago and within the War Diary it stated only two telephonists were killed by the V1. It mentioned that five were seriously injured. Can I ask where did the information regarding the other three deaths come from as I haven’t seen a primary source that shows any other military casualties. Thanks

PLB-report (in Dutch) mentioned 5 killed, 3 seriously and 9 light injured. (see attachment).
The photo shows the tent in the background where the soldiers were sleeping when the V1 hit the tent at 3.30 a.m. on 29th of March 1945.

Hello, I work at Arundells in Salisbury, the home of the late Sir Edward Heath. I am currently rewriting the information which we Have on Sir Edward's military career. You may or may not be aware that he was in this Regiment. He was posted to 335 Battery, 107th HAA Regt in early 1941. He then served as Adjutant from March 1942 until Christmas 1944. He then was appointed OC of 334 Battery. He was posted out of the Regiment to 86 (HAC) HAA Regiment RA as their 2 IC.(He commanded for a few months.) In 1947 he commanded the 2nd Regt of the HAC. Excuse lack of regularity using abbreviations etc..terrible typist! Love to know if anyone stumbles across any anecdotes on him not in the usual biographies etc.
