In September this year, I will be attending the commemorations at Arnhem with a group of CCF Cadets from St Mary's College in Crosby, Merseyside. We will be attending the service at Oosterbeek Cemetery on the Sunday. Myles Francis O'Shaughnessy is a former pupil of the school and was killed on the 25th September 1944 and is buried at Oosterbeek. On behalf of the school, our Cadet RSM will lay a wreath on the grave prior to the service and I would be most grateful if any members would kindly provide me with details of the actions fought by the 7th SLI for the period leading up to the 25th September to allow me to brief the Cadets prior to our visit. I am aware the Myles is commemorated on the memorial in Elst. Thank you. Mark
I have the Battalion history , the reprint by Naval & Military Press. I'll email photos of the pages to the email address you use for the forum rather than posting them here.
Paul Reed has the September 1944 7 SLI war diary in his Flickr album. https://www.flickr.com/photos/battlefield_historian/albums/72157622494108073
Here is a photo of Myles wearing the uniform of the 8th Liverpool Regiment. His service number falls within those allocated to the King's so he must have transferred to the SLI sometime after 1940 when i understand the photo was taken.
Lots of threads on the 8th (Irish) Battalion, the King's (Liverpool Regiment). They were in one of the Beach Groups , I'd guess he was posted to 7 SLI when the beach groups were disbanded. Liverpool Irish - Wikipedia Beach groups - Wikipedia
