3rd Battalion (Duke of Connaught's Own) 7th Rajputana Regiment

    I am looking for the geographical movements of the 3rd Battalion (Duke of Connaught's Own) 7th Rajputana Regiment 1940 - 1942 please.

    Here are the movements of the battalion from its arrival in the Middle East through 1942:


    OC Army Troops Aden – August 1940 to September 1940
    The battalion left Karachi for Aden on August 23rd, 1940. It remained at Aden for the rest of August and into early September. It then left Aden for Egypt.

    British Troops in Egypt (BTE) – 13 September 1940 to 4 November 1941
    The 3rd Battalion arrived at Suez on September 13th, 1940. It remained on guard and garrison duties at Port Tewfik until October 1941. The battalion then moved to Cyprus on November 4th, 1941.

    161st Indian Infantry Brigade – 4 November 1941 to 23 August 1942
    It joined the 161st Indian Infantry Brigade on arrival in Cyprus. It was located at Lakkatamia, Cyprus. It left Cyprus on March 30th, 1942 and sailed to Alexandria. From there the brigade moved to Qassassin, Egypt. It moved to Khataba with the brigade on April 17th, 1942. The brigade was then converted to a motor brigade and at the end of June, after conversion the brigade moved to El Alamein to dig defences for two weeks. The brigade entered the battle area on the Alamein line on July 19th, 1942 and was involved in an attack on Ruweisat Ridge on July 21st. It was relieved on the front on July 26th and rested in the rear until August 13th. It returned to Ruweisat Ridge on August 14th and was there when the battalion left the brigade on August 23rd.

    21st Indian Infantry Brigade – 23 August 1942 to 25 November 1942
    The battalion then came under command of the 21st Indian Infantry Brigade in the Delta area of Egypt on August 23rd. It served protecting landing grounds in the Delta under the brigade until November 25th, 1942.

    HQ British Troops in Egypt (BTE) – 26 November 1942 to 18 December 1942
    When it left the brigade it moved to Tabaq, Egypt to prepare for a move to Aden. The battalion left Egypt for Aden on December 18th, 1942

    OC Army Troops Aden – 23 December 1942 to February 1944
    It arrived in Aden on December 23rd. It remained on garrison duty at Aden until February 1944 and then left for Egypt.
