Hi, Searching for a friend of mine. 403 A.C.C I know was part of RASC but he was a dispatch rider for a Canadian company. But his service records state 403 A.C.C. So company diaries, details, information anyone?
All I can find is the following diaries that are RASC. Do the dates and campaign fit? WO 166/13109 403 Company 1943 Jan-Dec WO 171/2456 403 Company 1944 Jan-Dec WO 171/6271 403 Company 1945 Jan-May WO 171/6272 403 Company 1945 Jun-Dec WO 171/9810 403 Company 1946 Jan- Apr
I don't know how many pages would be in each, diaries vary greatly in thickness. They could be 50 pages in each to over 400 in each, you never know what you are going to get until the files are ordered and copied if I'm honest.
Only have one such unit listed...218 Ambulance Car Company Army Troops attached 1 Corps 3 May 45...BUT listed RAMC not RASC
That sounds a bit odd, as he was in a unit that wasnt Canadian . Is that the ''family story'' ? Unless it was a British unit in First Canadian Army & things have been confused. also RASC personnel were attached to RAMC units as drivers. The unit itself would have been RAMC as Historic Steve says.
Stand corrected just found later on in 1945/6 "218 Company (Ambulance Car) RASC" the entry for 3 May 45 must be a typo!
Trux has this covered in his Motor Transport Company RASC entry and puts it far better than I can. Brian
well my friends grandfather was a dispatch rider, with 403 A.C.C. R.A.S.C. but he told his family he did a lot of 'work' for the Canadians. So that;'s all I know. Have a copy of his service records and that's it. So all info is very kindly received. Cheers
well he was a rider, as he was a mechanic in civil life. He did drive cars, ambulances but mainly bike rider, so we assume dispatch rider. Maybe the company records can spread light on it
