From the 1939 register (sorry I dont have full access) only one George Crozier ? Based on Guys excellent research an entry for Robert John Gill and Alice Crozier? Kyle and the administration from young Robert John Gill whose medals started the enquiry
I am indebted to you all. I find that William Crozier is the same man (Robert John Crozier's father) who was killed in the Burns Pit disaster which was the biggest mining disaster ever to hit North West Durham - 168 men and boys killed. A quarter of a million people flocked into this small town in the middle of nowhere to attend the funerals. The Grandfather of footballer Kevin Keegan was the hero of this event. He climbed down the shaft and organised the rescue of those left alive. Two of the bodies were not recovered until the 1930s when other coal workings accidentally burst into the devastated area. I had thought that William Crozier was the father of 7 but it was actually 9 - two of his sons were killed with him. I am now able to give the family as much detail as they are ever likely to get..
