Start a thread here and upload the service records Searching for Someone & Military Genealogy

Forum members will be able to assist you.

Then you can look to obtain the relevant war diaries
A couple of members on here offer a copy service at the National Archives Kew for a reasonable fee.

    regards
    Clive

As recommended by Clive, above, once you have his records, there are folks around here will be pleased to chip in and assist, but that is difficult without sight of the detail. I see from your other post that you are reluctant to do this, that's fine it just makes it difficult:
    12th Parachute Battalion (Yorkshire Reg)

You already know that he served in more than one regiment, enlisted in the Leicestershire Regt and was wounded whilst serving with them, and you say he was also in 12 Para. What you need to do is to research the appropriate war diaries for the particular dates he was with his various regiments and look out for other sources such as regimental histories, campaign books etc.

As a rule it is only officers who get mentioned by name in diaries, but there are often appendices attached to them that could answer your question of which company he was in. Whatever you find it will only enhance your knowledge of his service.

I can see x4 pages in full size..... you can save images as thumbnails if you want to keep them small, but keep going.... am sure those who enjoy interpreting these things will enjoy!

I'm in awe that he has such nice copies.

The two sets I applied for look as if the were photocopied by a drunk toddler.

He has an entry on the Royal Leicestershire Regiment database here
    as follows:-

    Moore, Sidney
    Rank : Private

    Army Number : 4858324

    Biography :

Enlisted 30.3.1937 in the Territorial Army Leicestershire Regiment. Served in World War Two. Transferred to 2nd Parachute Bn 20.12.1941. Rejoined Leicestershire Regiment 28.1.1943. Transferred to Lincolnshire Regiment 19.3.1943. Rejoined Regiment 23.1.1945. Released Class 'A' 6.3.1946.

    Period of Service : 1930s

    Conflicts : WW2

This states he transferred to the 2nd Parachute Bn, not the the 12th (although it could just be a transcription error).

Any chance you can post up the rest of the service record so we can clarify where any likely errors exist and eliminate any guess work or false leads?

If you re-size the images using a typical photo viewer/editor (900 wide is a nice size which is viewable on most people's monitors/screens) then this will usually reduce the image file size to acceptable limits to be able to post on the forum.

Or maybe take low res photos on your phone of the documents, so they come out less than the max file size accepted (can't remember if it's 1 or 2 MB max file size)

I can look at my Lincoln nominal rolls. Keep posting the Service records to see which battalion he served in.

The max size is 2Mb, the ones you have posted are great so must have been within that limit. After you have uploaded an image there is the option on the screen to insert it as a thumbnail or full size.

The ones you have posted are 3024 x 4032 and 1.45MB.
