    Any information please on Private 4986831 Charles Cyril Hubbard 2nd Battalion Sherwood Foresters killed in action on Friday 3rd March 1944 aged 21. He lived in Belper Derbyshire.

    Additional Info: Son of Edgar Richard and Ethel Mary Hubbard, of Belper, Derbyshire.
    Personal Inscription: HOME, KINDRED, FATHERLAND AND ALL, HE LEFT AT HIS CREATOR'S CALL

    The pages are from the regimental history, Barclay, C.N. The History of the Sherwood Foresters (Nottinghamshire and Derbyshire Regiment) 1919-1957. London: William Clowes and Sons, Ltd., 1959.

    More than likely, Hubbard was wounded in the action described in "The Boot" and "The Wadis" and died of wounds on March 3rd, but that is only speculation.

    did you find any further information - my Great Uncle Harry Gamwell also died on the 3rd March 1944 and was part of the Shewood foresters battalion - we are trying to find where he was buried.

    Thank you so much - Its my Grandmas brother and she was only very young when he died and couldn’t remember where he was buried - she is very happy to know!
