Paul, Thanks for the post. I have printed them all off. I am just reading about the 4th Recce in Cape Bon, Tunisia at the moment before moving out to Italy. Dad missed out of North Africa due to being burned in overseas training, when a phosperous grenade was mis-thrown and landed in the truck he was travelling in. He ended up in the RAF burns hospital at Morecambe (Midland Hotel). When fit he was sent to Italy. Regards Tom
Tom, You're very welcome. Will post other Recce Roles of Honour as I find time as I think Recce are being forgotton in the annals of History. Cheers Paul
Paul, Like all wartime units, disbanded at the end of hostilities or integrated with other Regiments (as were all the Recce), they soon become forgotten. The more I am reading about them, the more I am proud that my father served in the Reconnaissance Corps. Regards Tom
Paul / Smudger - The recce regiments will never be forgotten by the vets they serrved as they were - as their motto says - "only the enemy in front" - they did a magnificent job at all times and suffered by getting involved in skirmishes completely underarmed to fight....as they say over here - "they dun good " Cheers
TTC, Thanks for that comment, it is very much appreciated, especially coming from a veteran like yourself, who was there. Regards Tom
TTC, I also thank you for your comments. Coming from a veteran who was there they are high praise indeed. Cheers Paul
Hi, I stumbled across this article this morning after having had a discussion with my mum last night about where my Grandad was buried. I found his record on the Commonwealth War Graves Commission site and now find his name listed above - I have suddenly become very interested to find out more, as I am sure my mum is as - she was only 1 year old when he died.
