    Re. His MC referenced in the London Gazette and his MC Citation in the National Archives, there doesn’t seem to be a way, currently, for the online searches to pick it "out".

    It's "there" i.e. it can be seen referred to in his other decorations...

    Having looked for further evidence for a Peter Laycock, Military Cross...

    It's (perhaps?) not beyond impossible that the compilers of the London Gazette got confused themselves with the three different Laycock siblings...

    ...and showed an MC for Peter Laycock that wasn't actually "there"...

    ...we can see below - for example - a 1950's entry where there is "now" no evidence of an MC... so perhaps a simple error in recording is the simplest / Occams razor result... to explain how it can go from "being there" in other references to foreign awards but being absent from entries made during his later career.
