Hello all Having received my fathers records from Glasgow, I am compiling a 'timeline' of his service. So, his records show he was posted on 17/01/1941 to 538 Clyde Coast Regiment RA... He wasn't there long, but I have searched and come up with nothing about the Regt / unit / location... If anyone knows anything then I would really appreciate it... Thanks BillF
Short piece here on BBC People's War, not specifically about 538 but the Clyde coast artillery. BBC - WW2 People's War - The Clyde Coast Artillery Lesley
Bill, I could be wrong, but lack of info maybe due to them not being front line as such. I ran the name through the National Archives at Kew website and also National Records for Scotland, but no returns. There seems to be a couple of news articles about 461 Clyde Coast, but they are from 1950's papers. Maybe try the Scottish Military Research group or even contacting the Mitchell Library in Glasgow. The Facebook page Lost Glasgow are also accumulating quite an archive of various photographs. Readers of the Lanarkshire section on Rootschat are amazingly helpful too.
