Hi My Dad flew with 570 squadron. However, since your request was a while ago are you still searching for photos? My dad also flew stirlings as a pilot with 570. I have both his log books, with photos included and a couple of sqdn photos showing all the guys standing on and seated below a stirling. A couple of photos in the log book are formation photos, en route to Arnhem. Regards

I know he also served on 78 Sqn (Halifax IIs) from 06 Dec 1942 - 14 Apr 1943 then moved to 570 Sqn. He is buried with the rest of his crew at Orleans Main Cemetary, Loiret, France. I have to visit soon. I have just joined here with the hope of finding some history about Stirling E7-P and its crew. I have a picture supposedley of my father and his crew in front of E7-P but we are not able to identify any crewmen or find a list of crewmen who might have flown this aircraft. Any ideas or suggestions will be most appreciated. Bob M

Hello, I've just joined. I believe my father, Edgar Dunn, of Ontario Canada, flew with the squadron. Although my daughter is currently holding his scrapbooks, there are a number of photos I could make available after her next visit--is there anything in particular? Also does any one remember him? Best regards
Hello and welcome to the forum. Might be an idea to start a new thread related to your father. Photos would be great. Regards Peter

Hi Mark My father was at Harwell with 570 Squadron in early 1945 , and I have the Squadron ORB's for February . A cursory search lists your father and details of his crew as being involved in bombing raids at that time - any use to you ? The only picture of my late father with his crew was , I am told , probably taken when he was with 1665 HCU . Look forward to hearing from you , Kind Regards John Evans.
Hi John A copy of the ORB's at that time would be great, thank you. What is the easiest way to obtain them (I am new to this) What was your father's name - I will ask dad of any recollections of him Thanks for your reply Mark
Does anyone have any information or Photos of 570 Squadron aircrew or Aircraft, I have looked through the usual RAF sites on the net but can only find brief info. I am looking through a wireless operators flying logbook . The Logbook has entries for SOE/SAS drops, Glider Towing ,Op Varsity all interesting stuff. Any pointers where any Sqn photos may be would be very well recieved Can I recommend a recently published book to you, entitled Arnhem Pilot. It covers the wartime exploits of Flight Lieutenant Fred Mortimer nad is written by his nephew Christopher McArthur. It includes some photographs of Harwell, a picture of the aircrews prior to D Day, a few pages detailing the SOE missions he flew on, plus Operation Market Garden, on which he was shot down and subsequently captured. The book contains details of the planes, maps of the airfields, extracts from the Operational Record (June - Sept 1944) and his Flight Log book
I wonder if any contributor can supply detailed information on any of the following items in my late father's logbook . They are all SOE Operations ,all at night , and all undertaken when he was at Harwell : 11/08/44 "Hippodrome" , 21/08/44 "Bob 265" , 31/08/44 Ditcher 50 , 11/09/44 " John 147 " and 5/11/44 "Draughts 5" Any replies awaited with much interest and thanks. JE John, Arnhem Pilot includes a refernce to Ditcher 50 as follows - Fred flew to the Lyons area on 31.8.44 dropping 24 containers to SOE group Ditcher 50. I hope that helps Graham

Hi Graham Thank you for the "Ditcher 50 " note - have ordered the book which I await with considerable interest . I did actually answer my SOE questions by obtaining the ORB's which provide as much as I need . Kind Rgds John

Back again ! I'm just writing an account of what my father, f/l Brierly did in WW2 , starting from his EFTS at Desford , right through to his last Ops crossing the Rhine with 570 Sqdn. It's going to be a family book for future generations, because my kids and their cousins know absolutely sod all about WW2, let alone what their grandad did ! I was reading last night about W/C Bangay. He seemed a real character, whatever happened to him, did he survive the war ?
