I am relatively new to this kind of research but nonetheless enthusiastic to learn. Until I have time to view war diaries at NA I would like to pose an open and embarrassingly basic question to any more experienced members who would like to respond. How far behind the front line would an 1944/5 Armoured Brigade REME Workshop actually be in NW Europe and what risk did they face of coming into actual contact with a German response. Thanks so much for any thoughts. (The actual route in question is detailed in my earlier posts under other forum headings.
Hi, could you get in touch with me? at work at mo and just noticed your thread! My late Father served with this workshop! Have some info but I have never managed to get upto Kew yet!! All the Best Fred
Fred, What a pleasant surprise ..... I was beginning to despair of this site being able to offer anything of interest to me. I havent been to Kew yet. I aim to go in the next couple of months with the objective of taking images of the 5th guards armoured workshop war diaries. I would really love to dig up more info about our late father`s brave journey through 44 and 45. I have `a potted history`(2pages of very sketchy detail) from the REME archives about the workshop in NW Europe... but no real detail and certainly no photos. I can email you the pages if you woiuld like to see them. I would dearly love to know what info you might have. Kind regards David Bell

Was flicking through an old copy of After The Battle, issue 119 Break-Out Across The Seine & saw this. Thought you'd like to see it. I believe the original picture was in a book called La liberation dans l'Oise et a Beauvais by Fernand Watteeuw
Hi, Thanks so much for the images. I`ll certainly follow through the lead. It`s thoughtful posts like yours that encourages me to continue researching. Thanks again
