In one of the SOE Files I have come across an in depth report on 6 Airborne Div in Normandy with maps and several air photos post drop, it has follow on wave and ground sea-tail deployment details as well as breakdowns of casualties etc. Also attached to this report is an account of the Varsity Op in 1945 by an SOE officer attached as an observer. The report also makes various recommendations for urgent amendments to the Airborne War Establishment in the light of lessons learned.

I should have the formatting of the images completed this weekend and will provide either on CD or as hard copy.

The Sappers had been over to the landing ground, where the Airborne were due to land to remove the dug in tree trunks that threatened the gliders.

Then they joined the other Sappers clearing the explosive beach obstacles.

I'd be very interested to see that as my Gramp was in the 6th Airborne. I am going over there on Friday and will hopefully meet up with some of the men in his Battalion.

My father was with the Military Police in the 6th Airborne. He arrived in France by sea on Junes 6th at Asnelles 11 am. He was driving a jeep full of road signs, disappeared under the sea, but carried on driving and ended up on the beach.

From there to Subles, St Vigor le Grand, Bayeaux, St Croix Grande Tonne, Le Mesnil Patrie, St Manvieu, Cheux, Grainville, Tourville and on to the battles around the Orme and Falaise.

At some time, my guess around 7/8 June he was at Pegasus bridge and tells me he put up a sign saying something like.

If you can read this sign Gerry can shoot you

He seems to have done this under fire as the other troops (presumably 6th Airborne) were laughing. Any suggestions as to archives I could access on his unit please?

Hello there! I just read the post about your father who was a member of the 6th airborne provost company. I have a grouping that came out of North England which includes an early para helmet, a Denison smock and a sleeping bag with the Provost Company's drop zone flash. I It would be great to see if you can help me decipher the markings on his helmet and sleeping bag. You can email me at: brianmrouth@gmail.com or brianmathewrouth@gmail.com. Best. Brian

Hi, I would be interested the Op Varsity Report, particularly in the name (or initials) of the attached SOE officer.
