We had the honour to be at the presentation of the Legion d'honnoeur to Alfred Grimes at the Imperial War Museum North on Sunday the 13th December. Also present were Don Aiken and Eric Postles both are still waiting for their medals. It was great to have three of the 61st together. Dave
Richard Massey ex 5th Camerons (anti-tank company) gets his medal at Warrington Town Hall to-day at 3PM.
Wonderful photo and great to see the three of them together. Anthony Rampling of the 61st Recce has also received his award of the Legion d'honneur ( http://www.chotiedarling.co.uk/my-blog/2015/11/what-happened-to-tony-rampling.html ). He was in 'B' company with Don Aitken and Eric Postles. Nottingham University interviewed Anthony and retraced his journey through France and the low Countries to Germany (via the Ardennes for the battle of the Bulge) to produce a book with photographs by Rob Perry. So glad these guys have received this recognition. They so deserved it.... Chotie's daughter :frflag[1]:
Well done to Eric and Don getting their Legion of Honour. I had the pleasure of meeting two of the re-enactors at Hull the other weekend, one of them Andy Cummings. I did take a couple of photos of the event, but they need re-sizing before I post them. I wasn't aware there was a 61st Recce re-enactment group and will be sure to keep looking at their facebook page regularly. Lesley
