Hi, I am looking to try and find out the circumstances of the death of 6466261, Fusilier, George Albert Gardner, 14/Royal Fusiliers (City of London Regiment), who died in Colchester, Essex, on 23rd March 1940, aged 50.

Born in Abergavenny, Monmouthshire in 1889, he was living in Cardiff with his family, having already served in the First World War in the Royal Field Artillery. Two of his sons would also be killed in the Second World War - one in the Royal Navy, the other a Civilian Fire Watcher.

Interested to know if it was through an accident or from natural causes. He is buried in Colchester Cemetery.

Is there anywhere I can search - having checked local newspapers online - or will I have to apply for his death certificate to obtain any further clues?

    Thanks in advance.

    Ceri.

Death certificate should give reason, casualty list states dangerously ill.
