    201st Guards Brigade, 5th Division, 10 Corps
67902 Lieutenant, Acting Major Eric Charles William Mackenzie PENN, 6th Battalion GRENADIER GUARDS

    TRIMONSUOLI, 29th January / 30th January 1944.

This Officer commanded No. 3 Company in a night attack to take the above-named feature. The night was extremely dark and control was almost impossible.

On reaching his objective he found progress impossible owing to eight spandau posts which were well sited and dug in and were firing at his Company from a range of only 200 yards.

With complete disregard for his own safety and under extremely difficult conditions he personally gave orders to each section of his Company and another Company which was sent to his aid, and led the attack which succeeded in capturing its objective in the face of fierce opposition.

Without his example and leadership the attack could not have succeeded.

Signed W. KINGSMILL, Lieutenant-Colonel, Commanding 6th Battalion GRENADIER GUARDS

    Granted an Immediate M.C.
