This is a bit of a long shot but wondered if anyone is about to visit Tripoli CWGC cemetery where there are over 1,200 men buried.

My father's friend and comrade, Rifleman James Murtagh, is buried there - Rfn Murtagh was wounded at Maletto on 12th August and seems to have died on 15th August, buried in Tripoli, presumably after being medically evacuated.

As the London Irish Rifles Regimental Association is visiting Sicily in September, we would like to obtain a copy of his final resting place - 84 of the 88 LIR men who were killed in Sicily are buried at Catania.

He is the only London Irishman buried in Libya - "strangely" he doesn't seem to have the Military Medal noted on the CWGC roll...he was recommended for his action on 12th August... and, of course, I shall be following this "omission" with the CWGC.

Many thanks in advance for any feedback/help,

    best wishes
    Richard

    Skip,

I've now got hold of a photo of James Murtagh's final resting place at Tripoli - in September, when we unveil a monument and pipe a lament for the 89 London Irishmen who were killed during the Sicily campaign, we shall pause for additional reflection to remember Rifleman Murtagh - the only one of the 89 who is not buried/commemorated in Italy.
