Just finished watching a documentary on the attack with those who survived on the battleships for 36 hours before being cut out and Japanese Zero pilots.

Quite interesting again 70 years on.

    Hi

Looks like an interesting program on SBS on Friday-

    Killer Subs In Pearl Harbor
    [IMG]
<LI style="DISPLAY: block" id=evening27>The sinking of the USS Arizona in Pearl Harbor in 1941 resulted in the deaths of more than 1,000 crew members. For decades, it has been thought that a bomb dropped by a Japanese aircraft sank the Arizona. But the discovery of a group of Japanese midget submarines in and around Pearl Harbor has raised questions about the battleship's final hours. In this program, a team of experts investigate whether one of the mini-subs could have made it into Pearl Harbor and fired torpedoes at the Arizona. PEARL HARBOUR - FIRST PICTURES - British Pathe
Titles read: "PEARL HARBOUR - FIRST PICTURES".

    Pearl Harbour, Oahu, Hawaii.

Various shots show wrecked ships, aircraft and docks in the aftermath of the Japanese attack on the United States Fleet at Pearl Harbour (8 December 1941). Wrecked planes lie on the shore of the island. The charred battleship Arizona and other half-sunken warships sit at odd angles in the water. L/S of an undamaged battleship moving past a wrecked ship that is belching smoke. Stirring voiceover urges us that "what has been lost has got to be rebuilt, regained, revenged".

I happened to be on a major US military base on this day (no, not 1945; 2011.) My (polite) question to staff on when and where the anniversary was to be marked, was quickly hushed up: They had visitors from Japan, who were not to be upset.

I was shocked into silence - a rare occurrence.

The fact that the Japanese were clueless enough to schedule for that date is ... not surprising.
