Hi - I'm trying to get hold of a copy of 71st Brigade war diary for the period July to September 1944. Access to TNA (in spite of being 'open') seems impossible, and I wondered if anyone could help? Initially looking to confirm date and details of entry into theatre, but also looking for more on actions up until the end of September. Any help appreciated.
I think you will find a couple of members here copy documents for a fee. However in the current circumstances I do know that one of them will not be attending as the limited time available etc is not financially viable, which is why I have also yet to return. It may be that the document has already been copied by one of them too - if you have the reference, probably in WO 171 if in NWE, that would be very helpful Andy
Hello Red W, I came across your post through a Google search for the 71st as I too am looking for the war diary - did you get hold of it after your post? Am new to this and just starting to research my grandfathers’ experiences in the NWE campaign following D-Day. One of my grandfathers was in the 1Bn Ox and Bucks, and was Brigade Intell Officer for the 71st Infantry Brigade. Am very keen to track down the brigade war diary to try and trace his movements in 1944/5, and would be very grateful for any pointers you could offer!
RedFive, Red W the opening post author does log in, last on Sunday. I will send him a PM in a moment; you cannot use that option till x5 posts. Access via hovering over his avatar you will see 'Start a Conversation'.
