My father was transferred to 732 pack transport company jan 1944 and served in Italy ;Require info on areas/mountain ranges where this unit served:ukflag[1]:
Welcome to the forum One presumes your father was RASC, they used pack animals at Cassino and in most of the mountainous terrain during the winter of 1944/1945. You need to check the units war diaries at the National Archieves to find out the day to day details on the unit.
Forgot to mention If you look under the portal heading near the bottom of the page is the ARCRE War Diary Search link this if you feed in the correct unit details provides a search for units and reduces the manual search.
Hi, I've just looked through the Italian war diaries and there is no 732 Coy listed. Is the unit definately correct?

Psywar. There must be more than these WDs. I am off to Italy in Apr to follow the activities of 359 Pack Tpt Coy RASC at Cassino and Andy got me the WDs from TNA. Regaerds FdeP
The 359 hasn't been described as a Pack Transport Company in the National Archives catalogue, just as RASC > 359 Coy. There probably are others like that as well. I've just listed those identified as Pack Transport Coys in the catalogue. However, as far as 732 war diaries are concerned, the only unit with the number 732 in Italy is a REME service station. There is a RASC 732 coy in the catalogue but this is identified as a home unit between 1943 to July 1944. No other listings for it after that date. Lee
Cheers for yr research.that could make sence mentioned in SERVICE ECORDS as being attached to 306 PACK SUPPORT COY RASC (wef3/1/44)
Cheers for yr research.that could make sence mentioned in SERVICE ECORDS as being attached to 306 PACK SUPPORT COY RASC (wef3/1/44) Still no diary of them in Italy. 306 Company RASC according to the National Archives was in the UK between January and July 1944 and noting seem to jump out after that. Probably the best thing to do is scan and post the actual documents. Cheers Andy

Oldman Thanks again cannot scan document however the earlier dates etc is extracted from service records. The Italian Star was awarded for service 5 Jan 1945 to 16 Feb 1946 Recall conversations ref Pack Mules and a comrade dying after landmine being activated by mule.(Ken)
May be a bit late coming in on this enquiry. I was a member of a Horse Pack transport Co. Stationed at Gordon Castle, Fochabers 1943. Posted to Africa to set up Mule Pack Co. Landed Italy 1943 and finaly at Capua where the unit was taken over by Italian volunteers. Don!t remember any Co. Numbers, as I moved around a great deal. A muleteer who stepped on a mine was, I think, Will Kimber
