    Hello,
I am new to your website and was delighted to find the war diaries of the 7th Somersets available to view! :D

It has confirmed some information regarding what Company my late father was in! He couldn't remember if it was B Co or D Co. Well, thanks to your wonderful website, it is B Co for certain, as it says that B Co was deployed at the crossroads in Elst - where my dad was left in the jewellers shop with a Bren gun pointing down the road!

Great to see the original writing - if anyone can point me in the direction of anything to do with the Somersets, I would be most appreciative.

    Thanks

It's an image I nicked from Amazon.
    Paul actually owns that copy.
All the ones I've seen are too expensive.

    Hi,

I was wondering if you would be able to show the 7th Somsersets WD for August 1944? My granfather severed with them from 1939 - 1946, however he was captured at Vernon along with the rest of A coy.

I have his service records and the "Story of the Seveth" original copy given to him after the war. But I am trying to gather as much info as I can and would be grateful of any help.

    Many thanks

I can't as I only focus on the Dutch period after September 1944, but no doubt someone else can

    Ok, thanks mate.
Not sure if Paul would be able to help? The WD he posted was Sept 1944, I need Aug 1944.

Get site by the way, really helpful people.

    Hello Owen!

I have located and purchased an original copy of the book Story of the Somerset Light Infantry - a book my dad had tried for years to obtain. I believe it is now available as a reprint, but my original has the little 'slip' saying it is only for the next of kin of the soldiers of that regiment - and I therefore qualify!!! Great reading, and if the house caught fire it would be the first thing I would grab!!

    Hello Jayvictory!
I would advise getting a copy of Story of the Somerset Light Infantry by Capt JLJ Meredith (they have some on Amazon) it is a fantastic account of the Somersets from June 1944 onwards. Highly recommended!!

    A request from a veteran

As every one knows most of us old gits wont be around for much longer so before I shuffle off this mortal coil I would dearly like to get hold of our regimental diaries
to leave to my grandchildren as telling them how things happened during the war is a definite no and not being computer literate I have no idea how to start going about getting the diaries as I can no longer walk more than about thirty yards so would have to rely on the good nature of some kind person to help me out obviously I would pay
for all travelling expenses and the purchasing of the documents they would probably run from 1942 to 1946 the regiment I am referring to the 1st Battalion Princess Louise
Kensington regt was a support battalion for the78th battleaxe division

    Kind regards niccar
