    Hi all,

My research on 84 Fd Coy RE is now available, entitled 'From the Shores of The Moray Firth' - The Story of 84 Field Company Royal Engineers 1944-1945.

I did a very limited press of hard copies, which have already been snapped up (priority was given to families of those who served with the unit), however I also have emailable PDF copies for anyone who is interested. Both hard copies and PDF copies are/were FOC.

If anyone wants a PDF copy then please send me a PM with your email contact.

I hope to do a 2nd edition next year, make a few tweaks and hopefully include a few more stories from individuals who served with 84.

    All the best,

    Marc

    Thanks for the copy Marc.
Very detailed and some interesting photos of the bridgeworks towards the end.

I received an email from Fred Sadler's daughter yesterday, informing me that Fred sadly passed away on Wednesday 16th March, at the age of 96.

Fred, who can be seen in the famous D-Day photograph, in the background walking towards the camera, served with 84 Fd Coy RE during WW2.

I had the honour of meeting Fred last November, when he received the Ordre National de la Legion d'honneur.

Yes, a very famous photo. So that is him on right and what is he carrying?

    Dear Marc,
Any chance that I might please be able to see a copy of your publication on the 84 Field Company? I am researching John Parker Symon, and George MLennan who was in the 77th Assault Squadron. Thanks so much for your help!

    Hi,
I don’t have any hard copies left I’m afraid, but can either email you a high res copy or it’s online (should be a link under the post here).

I have other books which may also help your search. Happy to help if I can.

    Regards
    Marc

A long overdue post, but just wanted to inform those who have shown an interest in 84 Field Company RE, that Sapper John Dearlove passed away in Spring last year.

I had kept in contact with him via Skype and FB since he contacted me on here back in 2015, and my wife and I even visited him in Trieste in 2016 where he had lived since the late 80s. He was in a care home then, but able to wheel himself down the main street to get a coffee or a gelato. He remained in good spirits until the end and it was an honour to have been a friend of his in his last few years.

As far as I am aware, John was the last from 84 Field Company RE from 1944-45.
