Thanks Lionboxer. I wonder if Raj, Bobby and the boys have explored this one?

I found an amount of stuff at Kew on the Boxes, mainly in the IV Corps files. Perhaps we should start a thread to collect what we have together? The position was pretty hard to work out as some boxes closed and others were renamed. Then some of the lists I have include some boxes but not others.
I have posted some of the maps on Flickr but I am sure there are others.

Tony it is a confusing and complicated task. Remember that the Imphal Plain was in a state of flux with units moving all over the place and as you correctly state were changing the code names of the boxes and sometimes the locations. I too have a fair bit about the boxes etc so we must get our heads together on this.
As far as I know Raj and the boys haven't been there yet. There's so much to explore! The lads have been to Kanglatongbi this morning for commemorations of the anniversary of the battle for me. I'll post some pics on my posting in the anniversaries forum.

Thanks for the info and the google earth pic Lionboxer!

One query I have too (although I know I may open up a can of worms) - is there anything like a detailed map of Imphal and the surrounding area, with the milestones mapped out for each road? As the 864 diary obviously mentions a lot of the MS locations so it'd be great to see where they were. I've seen a sparse few dotted on various maps during my research (including at least one of the maps in your book), but I dont know if they were ever all on one map? If not, and if we can piece together enough maps and information regarding the milestones, I dont mind mapping them all out in my spare time.

Regarding pictures, there were 36 in total that my dad has scanned. I've spent the morning cropping them (As he scanned them in batches) and labelling them.....I will forward them all onto your email address Lionboxer, and I will also create a new post on here and upload them so people have a chance to see them.
Quite a few studio shots so I wont send/upload all of those, but a lot of pics from India are in there. My grandad took a few touristy shots too (Indian locals, macaques and one of a really interesting Indian castle) as well as some that look like photos but I think are more like small postcards, both from India and from Cape Town (where the troop ship stopped on the way), but my dad hasnt had time to scan those yet. Theres also still quite a few photos in an album, but they're stuck in, so I'm hoping to find a portable scanner so I can scan those in. I will take photos with my camera phone the next time I am at my parents though.

    Cheers all

    Paul

Thanks Skoyen! I'll have a look once I'm home and start digesting them and think of the best way to generate a map with all the milestones on (if they're not already on your maps)
