The caption to this photo says that it shows an "Order" group of the VIIIth King's Royal Irish Hussars for an exercise at Cairo at the beginning of the war. The problem is that there are more men in the photo than names in the caption.

Is any of these officers wearing headgear which would suggest that he was not a Hussar?

Are the forage caps (if that's what they are) right for the regiment?

The 'Coloured Cavalry Field Service Caps' (Or 'tent hats') are spot on and quite distinctive to the 8th KRI Hussars in that form. Deep Green with gold trim.
Can't see the Officers badges clearly enough.
(I'm no expert by the way, I just have a very nice book that covers the funny hats rather well ;))
    Cheers,
    Adam.

This photo, taken at an exercise near Cairo in 1939, includes a man I am researching, a Lieutenant in the 8th (King’s Royal Irish) Hussars. My problem is that the caption gives six names, and there are seven men in the photo. He is the last one named, so I think he may be the man holding a map on the right.

Would the cap worn by this man (and another leaning over a map in the centre) be right for the 8th Hussars?

but I don't think I can help specifically with the 7th man.
