A unit stamp and an entry on a RE service record quite clearly has "979 Port Repair Ship". Question is - to what organisation did this ship belong. The time frame is post D Day. MaxD
979 Port Repair Ship was a Royal Engineer unit and appears in the May 1944 21 Army Group order of battle. It was under command of 2 Port Construction & Repair Group, which was part of Second Army. It does not appear in the May 1945 order of battle........ David
