Time to eat my beret! I just found this picture of my grandfather, in Egypt (I believe), wearing a beret. I think it is Egypt as the second photo has the same background, and was taken there. 01011201.JPG HRansonEgypt.gif

IMAGES OF HITLER YOUTH members and those of Britannia Youth Movement jointly laying a wreath marked with the NSDAP insignis at the Cenotaph in August 1936 during a cultural exchange visit. The German wreath lies amongst those commemorating the dead of British Army units including the 9th Lancers. Images copyright IWM. IWM catalogue reference MGH 6876. Object description
Amateur film shot by a supporter or member of the Britannia Youth Movement (BYM) founded by H C Andrews in early 1936, records formal and informal scenes during their stay at Dymchurch Holiday Camp (St Mary's Bay, Kent) with fifty Hitlerjugend (HJ) members, including wreath-laying at the Cenotaph on 1 August 1936, and covers the return visit made by fifty BYM boys to Germany to spend one week in Silschede in the Ruhr, then see the Olympic Games and other attractions in Berlin, Reichsarbeitsdienst labourers working at forestry, and the Nuremberg Party Rally in September 1936.

Large Englishman in naval-type uniform (H C Andrews?), with BYM President Capel Morris (bespectacled, trimmer and older, wearing winged collar) walk towards camera across airfield (Littlestone?) Their blazers share identical insignia. Unit of BYM members of various ages parade past bearing Union Jack, flanked by Andrews. Then follows a unit of Hitler Youth boys, bearing the swastika flag, and watched with interest by a group of young teenage girls in simple summer clothes standing beside the WWI-era barracks building marked Burnley, with housing estate visible in background). English boys appear younger than their German counterparts although camera dwells on most youthful boys of both nationalities. Both units then parade together, the English noticeably less adept at marching than their guests. Ceremonial inspection of the English group by Morris, who does not respond to the Nazi salute of the HJ leader. Pimpfe flash on young boy's arm. HJ boys goosestep past their English and German superiors, only the latter (including a woman) returning the Nazi salute. "Bolton" sign on one of the several barracks type buildings. Scenes of camaraderie. Inside the barracks block, camp beds indicate this is dormitory for HJ. Prize-giving of silver cups. Boys wave down from top of Shoreham Lighthouse (?). Into bus. Running on the South Downs. Gyro Auto-Cierva powers up, Liitlestone Airfield (?). Other aeroplanes, possibly an Air Day. HJ boys in Canterbury - Ye Olde English Butchers Shoppe.; HJ and BYM parade through, bearing their flags. Formed up on parade in squares, outside Canterbury Cathedral, with vicar inspecting. Leaders emerge from Cathedral with boys behind, presumably after attending Sunday service. HJ march through streets of Canterbury. HJ boys place wreath inscribed 'Continental Remembrance Brings Everlasting Peace - Hitler Jugend' at Cenotaph in Whitehall (London) on 2 August. (12 mins 24 secs)

    Plot
With Napoleon defeated and exiled, the reluctant Duke of Wellington is persuaded by Lord Castelreagh to represent Great Britain's interests at the Congress of Vienna, where the victorious allies will decide the future of Europe. While there, his friend the Duchess of Richmond introduces the married man to the pretty Lady Frances Webster, an ardent admirer, at her ball. During the course of the evening, however, Wellington receives an urgent message: Napoleon has escaped and has landed in France.[a]
French King Louis XVIII and his niece and most trusted adviser, Madame, the Duchess d'Angoulême, are not alarmed in the least. Ney, formerly one of Napoleon's marshals, volunteers to take 4000 picked men and capture his former leader. However, he switches sides, and the majority of Frenchmen follow suit.
With France once again under Napoleon's control, both sides race to gather their armies. Napoleon routs the Prussians under Marshal Blücher before coming to grips with his old nemesis Wellington at the Battle of Waterloo. At the crucial point of the battle, Blücher's timely arrival turns the tide, and Napoleon is defeated for the final time.
The allies occupy France and gather in Paris to divide the spoils. Once again, Castelreagh sends Wellington to try to restrain the others from punishing France too severely, in order to ensure a lasting peace. Wellington's task is made more difficult by the opposition of Madame, who is certain he wants to rule France himself.
Wellington warns Louis that Madame's desire to have the still-popular Ney executed for treason would risk another revolution. Madame arranges for Wellington's recall to London to answer a newspaper story that he is carrying on an affair with Lady Frances. Wellington soon disproves the claim, but while he is gone, Ney is convicted and shot by firing squad. The French people are outraged. Upon his return, Wellington forces the King to dismiss his advisers, including Madame.
Back in London, Wellington has to defend his decision to accept no reparations for his country.
