I have come across a letter from my now deceased grandfather (mums dad) he was RE and served in Burma, on the top of the letter is

    SAPPER J NEWSON 2154353
    E&M PLATOON
    M.A.Tas.Coy. RE3
    SEAC
    Singapore

Can anyone please tell me what all this means?
The bit I have highlighted in bold is very hard to read and this is what it looks like it says to me.
    Many thanks
ps the letter is dated 22/9/45

Try - British Military Terminology 1943 - a US War Department document - looks to be quite lengthy!

Somebody searching for a WW2 RE unit on ARRSE (Army Rumour Service) had some luck - with the curator of the RE Museum - Mail@re-museum.co.uk. Good Luck!

Can find Platoons of the RE listed as -eg; 620 Electrical and Mechanical Platoon -759 etc.But still not found MA TAS RE3

There are other abbreviations where the A is Artificer.

    Or - T ? - Assault Squadron
