An old post but very useful and interesting for me, my grandad was in the Evershed and Vignoles fire brigade so was amazing to find these scans. Thank you so much.

They are brilliant, I live in the general area and have alerted a few former employees to these scans. They found them very nostalgic although none of them are of the generation depicted.

Thank you for going to the trouble (some years ago!) to share this with us. My particular interest is Home Front helmet markings and I wonder who actually owns the copyright to this book (well, one of the photos actually). I'm assuming the Company itself....or the Company's new owners....a single photographer is easy - till 70 years after their death...but if the photographer was employed to take the photo I understand the Employer takes Copyright...which takes us back to the Company again.

....but I guess any Copyright's already been breached anyway :)

    Hi Black Bands
Glad this is still being found and has some value to your area of interest. Unfortunately I wouldn't know who holds the copyright as I am pretty sure that the booklet has nothing on it to suggest there is any. Having said that, if it does exist then the successor company may be the most likely holder or able to suggest who is. So far, nobody has questioned my posting of these pages and in view of the continuing interest I hope that is never the case. I am not dismissing copyright issues but I felt at the time that the potential interest made posting here worth it.

Thanks for your response....I wasn't meaning to criticize or chastise.....I guess it's like Russian Roulette.....somewhere in the chambers might be lurking a potential complainant but there's loads of great photos out there that simply have to be shared...so thank you

    Hi 2 Black Bands!
Absolutely no offence taken! Your analogy to Russian Roulette is probably quite apt, hopefully any gun pointing at this thread is completely empty!

    Dear Hutt

I have a fairly pristine copy of "A Factory at War" and would be happy to donate it to a good home, as I have no direct connection with either the company nor any of the persons mentioned in the bookn(al though I went through Acton Town station on a daily basis while at school) Could you suggest a suitable beneficiary?

    Thanks.

    Hi
Can I suggest the Imperial War Museum. The copy I had to scan was only loaned to me and unfortunately after my uncle died, it couldn't be found. I feared I may have had the only remaining copy but fortunately that's not the case. Really pleased to know that other copies are still around.

I will take up your suggestion about the Imperial War Museum. I and the copy are actually in Australia, so I may delay this until I next get back to London. Not sure, as Australia-UK travel rules so difficult to predict at this point. However, I would at least like to know that the Museum wanted the booklet before just putting in the post to an un-named person. I made a similar "present" of some old African artifacts to the Pitt Rivers Museum in Oxford a few years ago, and had I not actually delivered them fear they would have just been put into deep storage: as it was, the Museum's relative curatorial disinterest was spotted by another person who grabbed the objects as teaching materials, still at the Pitt Rivers!
I would be happy to send the booklet to you for your perusal if this is of interest, on the basis of an undertaking to deliver it to the Imperial War Museum.

I can now update the thread to say that Mr Saunders, on his recent visit to the UK has now kindly donated his copy of the Evershed & Vignoles booklet to the National Army Museum in Chelsea with an Ascension number of NAM BKS 62104.
I met up with him and his wife on the occasion and I was able to see an original copy again so if anyone believes they may have a relative who appears in one of the photos then the booklet images are quite a lot sharper than my original scans.
